DIY project -fabric panel softies

I just love these super cute printed panel softies. You can find these great panels at craft stores such as Spotlight or online. This one i picked up the other day and have been obsessed with making them since.

With an hour of spare time and a few supplies you can make one yourself. They make great gifts or a sweet decoration for a child's room. Here's how:

SUPPLIES:
FABRIC PANEL
POLY FIBRE STUFFING
COTTON TREAD
SCISSORS
SEWING MACHINE
NEEDLE

1. Gather all materials
2. Lay the panel out and cut around the printed border of the design (most panels have a seem allowance already factored into the design)

3. Lay the two printed (right sides) together and pin in place. See with the sewing machine leaving a seem allowance as per instructions the panel, remember to leave a space at the bottom for stuffing.

4. Turn inside out do both printed sides are showing.
5. Stuff with stuffing.

6. Stitch with needle and cotton to close the space.

DONE!!

Market Update

With only 38 days (yes it's ture) days until Christmas and half way through our huge Christmas market extravaganza, i just wanted to give and update of all the market news. Firstly i took on 2 new markets to my roster these season, Red Hill and Flemington. Both markets were fantastic. Flemington was vibrante and bustling and Red Hill a little hectic but balanced by the wonderful back drop of the Mornington Peninsula wire country.

For this "outdoor" market season i have added brand new displays to my table, these have been handmade amd allow for easy hanging of my long necklaces, lockets and dangle earrings - and the best part lets me add more stock to the table.

Up-cycle project - Vintage mannequin

I bought this vintage male mannequin from a seconhand dealer in Koo-Wee-Rup over a year ago with the intention of using it as a photography bust. 12 months on and i've bearly used and in fact it's actuuly been standing on my front verandar since December last year.

I had orginally planned to sell it but had a brainwave last week and wondered wether i could turn the mannequin in to a unique display board for my outdoor markets. As the bust was made form fibreglass i decided to use chalkboard paint for the job.

The process is used was very simple:
1. wash all surfaces to be painted throughly with water and a cloth (use water/sugar soap mix if the bust is more than just dusty)
2. Apply one thin even coat of chalkboard paint and allow to dry for 24 hours.
3.Apply 2 more coats of chalkboard paint allowing 24 hours drying time in between.
Done!!

I recommend you use paint rather than the spray as you get more coverage with the paint and thus cost you less. You can use chalk sticks or liquid chalk markers to write on the bust and a damp cloth to earse and clean-up
I'm really pleased with the results and think it would also be perfect standing outside my shop (one day when i finally open one).
