Weekend Market Review

Well it's such a wonderfully busy weekend just past. We had two markets on. The first on Saturdays was the Sister's Markers Market at the Brunswick Town Hall. A wonderful little market set in the middle of busy Sydney Road, the Sister's Makers market provides a day full of shopping and live entertainment.
I must admit that in the past i have been known to spend a bit of my market takings samplling all the wonderful treats including devine cupcakes and chocolate-filled pretzels, and Saturday was no expection.

For this market i brought along my brand new display stand. Made from some old pickets i found in the garden shed and a plank of pine board from my dads farm. I just finished it in time for the market, and dispite my horrible carpentry skill i was, i was stoked with the way it turned out.
It worked a treat on the day and provided to be the perfect display for by jewellery busts and a great was for showcase my designs.






On Sunday we headed off once again for Healesville. This is fast becoming one of my favorite markets. Run by Craft Markets Australia and held at the local racecourse, the Healesville market provides a wonderful mix of fashion, food and fun for all ages.
The Healesville patrons are truely wonderful, desipe the cold, overcaste conditions and the possiblity of the shower or two, many still came out for the market. I had such a wonderful response to all my collections, i will absloutely be commiting myself to these market for the come Spring and Christmas season.

Well it's Paperific time again. A trade show devoted to scrapbooking, cardmaking, ATC's and Alter Arts. Held twice yearly in April and August at the Melbourne Showground, the fair provides vistors with a chance to shop for the lastes tools and materials, join in small group classes, watch tutorials from vendors and participate in free "make and take" card and gift tag making sessions.





Twiddleybitz would have to be my favorite vendor. The make and sell amazing MDF laser cut wooden kits which you paint and embellish with scrabook paper. There have shadow boxes, frames and bird houses with can be transformed into wall art, clocks and trinket holders.

I brough a cup cake stand which i indeed to use to display my new range of earrings and bobby pins.





Every year the focus is different depending what's in vouge. This year it was Copic Markers, nifty little pens for hand colouring stamped images.
It was also very pleasing to see this year some steampunk themed scrapbooking.

A new vintage shopping paradie for Melbourne

If you haven't heard yet Hunter Gatherer, run by the Brotherhood of St Laurence have just opened up a shiny new shop right in the centre of the CBD. Located in the charming Royal Arcade in the Bourke Street Mall Hunter Gatherer - City is a mecca for lovers of fine vintage threads. Stocking mostly Mad Man style tea dresses, skirts and blouses plus awesome vintage shoes, the store also carries a range of retro mens fashion and handpicked locally craft jewellery and accessories to completement you brand new outfits.

Camberwell Market Finds

Le Carnivale

The carnivale came to town this weekend, well to be more correct, to the Mordialloc Beach Primary School. Their annual school fate fund raiser was held this post yesturday. And what a lovely day it was.
This was not just your average run of the mill school fair, this really is a lovely and well planed event with activities and entertainment for all ages. The event featured a rock wall climb, chair ride, mini jeeps, jumping castles, performances by local school children, showbags, games, numerous market stalls and a special area called "secret womens business" when one could be pampered with beauty treatments and henna.
I totally recommend you mark next years event in your calander.

Sister's Market Tomorrow

Come join us for a lovely day out at the Sisters Market at the Brunswick Town Hall - Sydney Road tomorrow from 10am-4pm. This is another new market for us, we'll have our usually selection of unique designer jewellery and accessories but will also have a small section of new paper craft, cards, homewares and wall art for sale. Many items will be less than reatil and some less then wholesale. Come grab a pre-Christmas bargain.

Modish Creators Market

This past weekend was our fist visit to the Modish Creators Market. Held in the beautifully appointed Malvern Town Hall, this markets focus is on stylish handmade products from 50 very telented Melbourne artisans, featuring stunning clothings, homewares, cards jewellery and the most amazing cupcakes and chocolates you've ever eaten.
Satudays event was a little down on numbers, so i hear, due the the replay AFL grand final, however we will also be in attendance for the 20th Novemeber and 4th December markets which should see bumper crowds stocking up on Christmas shoping.

It's Show Time

Well it's show time again. The Royal Melbourne Show is on again at the showgrounds in Flemington until the 28th of September.
As a child after Christmas and my birthday, show day was my most favorite day. It was so exciting, the night before i always found it hard to sleep. All winter long me, my sister and brother had the task of helping dad on the farm, on each night after school and on the weekend mornings we'd be downing the cowshed hand feeding the little calves or helping out in the milking shed. We never got pocket money but our reward for all our work was an annual trip down to Melbourne to the Show.
After a sleepless night we'd wake up all red eyed and grumpy, but by the time the train station (that's when the train still run in South Gippsland) we would be so full of excitement we could barely sit still.

In recent years the show have gone through a lot of changes and to me i feel it's lot some of it's whimsy and mystic but for a child it still provides a magically day out. This year i went with my sister and her 2 year old son. We had a wonderful day, watching Oscars reaction to all the ride, sights and activities was almost like see the show through my childhood eyes again. Oscar's favorite for the day was the first thing he set his eye on and the one thing he spoke of for the whole time we were there, the big "ball" that was "'igh" in the sky, also know as the Ferris Wheel with their shiny red gondolas.
