Market Update

With only 38 days (yes it's ture) days until Christmas and half way through our huge Christmas market extravaganza, i just wanted to give and update of all the market news. Firstly i took on 2 new markets to my roster these season, Red Hill and Flemington. Both markets were fantastic. Flemington was vibrante and bustling and Red Hill a little hectic but balanced by the wonderful back drop of the Mornington Peninsula wire country.

For this "outdoor" market season i have added brand new displays to my table, these have been handmade amd allow for easy hanging of my long necklaces, lockets and dangle earrings - and the best part lets me add more stock to the table.

Wow i can't believe it's less than one month until Christmas. As of this week i'm starting a series of gift guides to make Christmas shopping a little eaiser this year.
First off to tempt you is a brand new range of statement necklaces, these beautifully ornate pieces are truely works of wearable art. Each are made from a special selection of vintage and repourposed brooches, earrings, pendants and charms. Many of the componants have been resurfaced, repainted or hand enameled so the resulting designs are often One-of-a-kind's. In recents months perviously sold works have been seen in a number of magazines and newspapers and were also featured in a recent exhibition this past July.

Here is a collection of designs currently avaliable, but be warned most pieces sell-out very quickly and due to the nature of the materials used; cannot be reproduced once sold out.

The $10 Store Now Open

The 10 Dollar Store is a special place for you to shop for wonderful handmade items for yourself or as a gift. We've set us this store just in time for Christmas, we know times are a little tough right now but we still wanted to be able to supply our wonderful pieces at prices anyone can afford. All items in the store are only $10 (excluding shipping costs) and many of the designs are limited runs for 1 or 2 pieces. The designs featured in this store are very similar to the designs sold in out other store, or in the shops we stock throughout Australia and thw World and the designs featured in magazines such as Frankie, Peppermint and Yen. The lowered sale price is in no way a reflection of the items quality, this is just our way of giving something back this Christmas to our community.

Le Carnivale

The carnivale came to town this weekend, well to be more correct, to the Mordialloc Beach Primary School. Their annual school fate fund raiser was held this post yesturday. And what a lovely day it was.
This was not just your average run of the mill school fair, this really is a lovely and well planed event with activities and entertainment for all ages. The event featured a rock wall climb, chair ride, mini jeeps, jumping castles, performances by local school children, showbags, games, numerous market stalls and a special area called "secret womens business" when one could be pampered with beauty treatments and henna.
I totally recommend you mark next years event in your calander.

Inspired by Winter

I must admit i'm not very fond of winter. I don't like being cold (neither do my poor arthritic knees) and my house has no real heating expert for a small ceramic fan which makes working in my studio quite difficult most days. However i do find the appearence of nature in the winter months most inspiring. Whether it be snow covered mountains, a think foggy morning or the spooky appearance of the leafless trees that line my street. I would often sit with a hot cup of coffee and think of how i can incorporate this imagery into my work.
Drawing from this wintery wonderland i have created two new necklaces. The first is titled "The Winter Tree" and features a large bronze twisted branch style pendant with hand coloured verdigris owl attached.

The second is titled "The Lonely Tree" and features a large silver plated wintery leafless tree pendant. Both super sweet pieces are now in stock and ready to warn your heart this winter.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

***((((I'm so happy to have finished this piece that i had to write a blog entry about it))))***

I’m so thrilled to have finally finished this piece and offer it to you. This has been a labor of love for many, many months now.

Countless hours have been spent searching to the component and then designing and re-designing the pieces and i finally had it stage where i was happy with the piece. Not only is this a beautiful necklace but it’s also a piece of wearable mixed media art and a story book made from charms and jewellery findings.

To begin i started with large 92x52mm vintage steel filigree which for the base of the pendant. Mounted on top of the filigree is a selection of new and vintage charms which chronicle Alice’s adventure in wonderland. Forming collage background are tiny vintage doll house playing cards. The focal piece of this design is a large 38cm vintage brass basket wave locket with vintage “Paris” clock button. The locket has a fully working hinge and open out, with two sections for photos or keepsakes.

At present the pendant is hung from a 35cm think bronze tone cable chain, but i’m happy to alter the length of the chain or even replace the chain to suit your tastes

I remember toying with this idea back in late 2008, but it took a while to gather all the pieces and longer still to make the mock-up, and even longer still to put the piece together and have it finished, photographed and ready for sale. It piece is currently listed in my Etsy store but i should also have it listed on my website in the next day or so.

Butterfly Kisses Make Me Happy

Being a self-taught artist and designer i’m still getting to understand my creative process, i.e what drives my creative process , why i make things the way i make them and why i get inspiration from some things and irritated by others. One thing i came to understand recently was the different moods we have an effect what i create, for example when i’m really tired, like almost falling asleep tired i get the most inspiration i can “see” designs and have been known to be up until the sun comes up the next morning tinkering with new ideas.

This past week has been one of those “horror” weeks where everything seems to go wrong all at once, it’s been most upsetting – however it’s not been all bad , as i’ve come to realised that when in such a mood i create the prettier, more delicate pieces such are this butterfly necklace. I was planning to make a statement piece with the butterfly charms but never envisioned that it would look like how it has come out – but i love. I think it would be perfect for a garden party or wedding or some other "happy" event. Interesting!

This piece now available for purchase through my Etsy store.
